Patziapa

Patziapa, a Traditional Mayan Healing Center being created on the shores of Lake Atitlan, lies on the fertile outskirts of the San Pedro volcano, across from the village of Santiago Atitlan. Located in the Western Highlands of Guatemala, this extraordinarily beautiful lake is considered to be the heart of the Mayan world. Three enormous volcanoes make up the lakes southern shore: Atitlan, Toliman, and San Pedro.

Tz'utujil Maya inhabit the south, west, and northwest regions of the lake, and regard Patziapa and the surrounding lands to be a sacred and holy site. The upper part of the land, where remains of a pyramid can be found, will be used exclusively as a ceremonial center, while the rest of the land will be used for living and teaching centers, as well as food and medicine gardens.

The land at Patziapa is extremely fertile and has a year-round growing season, making it an ideal place for growing, researching, and teaching about traditional indigenous medicines and foods. It is our goal to preserve and reestablish healthy organic food and medicines, as well as provide natural medicinal products such as tinctures, essential oils, salves, incenses, and teas to local and international communities.

Away from roads or power lines, Patziapa is an ideal place for quiet meditation, rehabilitation, and rejuvenation. We will offer spiritual retreats for all people over the world to share indigenous traditions as well as other world culture, music, art, dance, and languages.

By bringing in indigenous elders, wisdom keepers, shamans, healers, and educators of sustainable technologies people will have access to a wide variety of subjects focusing on traditional healing methods and indigenous wisdom.

Mayan healers and spiritual leaders can be taught and go through their initiation rites to preserve and document their sacred oral traditions and knowledge so that it can be passed on to the next generations.
